“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me...” (John 10:27)
The Christian life is not a life of rules, it’s a life of relationship. When God speaks to us, He does so with the purpose of guiding us and directing us. In other words, we hear Him to obey. We listen to Him to change and draw closer to the purposes of God. I think this principle is essential to raise an offspring for God. We need to be willing to follow Him wherever He calls us.
AN ADVENTURE OF FAITH
I can compare listening to God to a great adventure of faith. Not long ago, I came upon this passage that describes the type of relationship God desires to establish with each one of His children. I remember that our first test of faith as newlyweds was when God put it in our hearts to give all the money we received as wedding gifts as an offering. Honestly, it was a big step of faith because my husband and I did not have a fixed salary, he had just moved to Florida from another country and we were literally starting from scratch. Our faith was tested that first year. However, we know that the offering determined what the rest of our marriage would look like. Today, we can say that God has been faithful and that we’ve never lacked anything.
The Holy Spirit is like the great captain of a ship in our home, and He needs to be in control of every area. Once when I was traveling to Bogota, God spoke to me so clearly on the pane about how many kids He wanted to give me. I was reading about Hannah, Samuel’s mom. In that passage, the Lord said He gave Hannah three more sons and two daughters. God used this verse, and with so much clarity told me He would give me six kids. I think He was preparing me from the beginning so I wouldn’t stop half-way! Today, we enjoy our two boys, our princess named Chloe and soon our fourth baby (girl) will be arriving to our home. It has been a great adventure of faith! In the same way, it is so much more than I ever dreamed. Allowing God to guide you is the best way to lift up your generations for God!
Who do we listen to?
I want to finish asking you a question: Who have you listened to to make the decisions that have led you to live the life you are living today? You know, it’s easy to listen to society and allow yourself to be led by that, even within the Christian community. I think God spoke so clearly to my heart about the number of kids I would have because today, without realizing it, society gives us a very different message than what the Word says in regards to children.
These are a few of the things I have heard:
However, when I read and study the Word, I find extraordinary things that excite me and stir a desire in me to obtain the inheritance God has for me.
These are a few things I’ve heard in the Word:
